JOHOR TIN COINS - KATUN

Unlisted MNF.2 (Similar to SS22)
OBV: A bar with "Khalifatul Mukminin" stamped on it
REV: Sultan Alaudin
diameter: 15mm
shape: round

SS27
OBV: A bar with large centre dot
REV: blank
diameter: 13mm
shape: round
This simple, rather cute piece of Katun was of somewhat still mystery in terms of its manufacturing process and the issuer. So far no specimens show traces of motif or inscriptions, so it is believed to be blank on both sides, except for obverse there is combination of small raised bar and large raised dot at the centre.

The existence of "tail" is a strong indication that this coin is most probably was casted.

This coin is only discovered in Johor so this is without a doubt a Johor coin - Katun.

SS29
OBV: A large centrally raised dot
REV: blank
diameter: 13mm
shape: round

This coin, in a perfect round shape is quite similar with above specimen (SS27). Both of them have "tails" to indicate that these pieces were cut from a coin tree that was casted in a die.

For this specimen, at the obverse, there is a large raise centrally-located dot with some damage on it. This central dot is a kind of trademark to indicate that the coin is from Johor. But some coins from Terengganu and Palembang do also has a central dot, although none of them are without motif or inscription like the piece from Johor. So it may be possible that these centrals dot are probably there, beside as a motif, is actually due to the manufacturing process involved during the production of the  cast die for the coins.Somemore for this specimen, there are incused circular rings at the field of the coin. This is similar to the lathe lines effect that are apparent on the modern coin due to the lathing process for the die. The circular rings for this coin may be associated with the process of making the cast die.

SS38
OBV: "Khalifah Sultan Shah"
REV: blank

shape: round
This coin is listed in Saran Singh's as a coin attributed to Johor - but nevertheless it does not possess any similiarity in terms of its inscriptio and design to Johor coin. Most probably at that time this coin was discovered in Johor region, hence it is assumed to be coin of Johor. I am personally inclined that this coin belongs to one of the state in Indonesia Sultanates.
